Canines For Kids Walk - September 2009

Well, it took a while to finalize all the details of getting money to Costa Rica, but is it done and the money is on its way! What a terrific feeling it is to know that we dogs have such big hearts that we can help out, at least in a little way, the kids of that terrific country!

The end result this year was outstanding!

Total money raised from our six Canine Walkers is $3,705.

Here is a breakdown of where the money is going:

Tortuguera School: A new classroom (part of the total funds they raised) - $1,500

Huetares School: A bathroom (100% of the cost) - $1,485

Turtle Station: This is a remote site where school children from Costa Rica and all over the world go with school groups to learn about the Leatherback Turtle, relocating endangered eggs and obtaining knowledge as to their history and status as a species in trouble. Because of its location, the Turtle Station has virtually no conveniences. In a country which averages 22-24 feet of rainfall a year, there is a constant shortage of water at the Station because they have had no means to store rainwater… hence our gift of:

Four Water Storage Towers (100% of the cost) - $720.

For the three years that we have been doing this, the total amount sent to EcoTeach, the Caribbean Conservation Corporation and the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation is $10,905!

That would sure buy a lot of dog biscuits for sure, but hey, the kids need some love too.

Another Walk in 2010???? Why not?!? I love this!!!
